Hair Issues-I need your help

Dear Darling Readers,
I am about to be vulnerable and show you something I would rather not show you. In an effort to keep it real, however, I come to you begging for mercy. I need your help.
You see, I am a low-maintenance hair owner. I cut my hair once a year-maybe less. I hardly ever use a blow dryer.
But this is what I’m dealing with as I look through photos of me on a drizzly morning in San Diego.

This is embarrassing.

It’s like my hair has a mind of its own. What is going on here to make it frizzle, frazzle and bedazzle?

Apparently, it doesn’t bother me too much. But then again, I am unaware of just what Bicep’s sees through the camera lens.
Please help, dear readers. What do I do about this frazzle problem? I need you. Don’t fail me now.
Love-Rebekah

Speaking from as a frizz suffer myself I can say the best thing In the world is Biosilk. I have naturally curly hair and am extremely prone to frizz, especially in the dry dessert where we currently live. After I shower, while my hair is still wet I take a small amount of Biosilk and rub it through my wet hair. Then I can blow dry or air dry without the frizzies occurring. It’s an expensive little bottle, but one bottle usually last me about a year. I get mine at Ulta, which is a shop that carries salon quality products. Some grocery stores also carry it, or you can find it online. Hope this helps…good luck.

I always use an anti friz serum. There are lots of different brands. It takes care of the frizzle frazzle!

Well, first of all, you don’t look like you need help to me! That being said, I’ll skip right to asking you if you like to have those pretty locks curled without using a curling iron on them? If so, go to You Tube and find the one with the most hits about how to use the “sock bun” on your hair at night and you make it with just one sock (unless you want to spen time doing the one that takes many socks and time to wrap many small bunches of hair wrapped up by socks! It has beautiful results but looks like to me-too much time for you to want to do). The sock bun method was tried by my gdaughter and she was SHOCKED how easy it is to do and she now doesn’t have to get up an hour earlier every morning before school to work on her hair! YES!! An HOUR devoted to her hair!! Ridiculous! But then she’s 16 and hair is SO IMPORTANT these days, evidently! She was so tired of getting up early and having to use a curling iron we got that’s tapered and sick of it doing damage to her hair b/c on top of that-she flat irons it to DEATH using a Chi~!! Now she just opts for the sock bun-and she doesn’t take it down until she’s about ready to finish with everything and walk out the door to go to school!! That way it lasts longer and she does everything else first. It’s extremey long like the girl who invented this method-and she puts it right on the very tip top of her head and rolls it down like the girl shows how to do-then goes to sleep-and doesn’t worry about it and though it gets a little messed up during the night and A LOT some nights-b/c she is a wildie sometimes in her sleep and sometimes she never moves! Anyway, she usually has some loose hair but none that totally comes out of the sock bun but the bun does drop down some-and then when she unrolls the bun, wah-lah….you’d think she had spent all morning curling her hair!! She’s so thrilled to have found that video on You Tube!! It really is amazing, though…but I’m sure it’s not going to last on some people out on the beach or in a ton of humidity. She lives in N. Dallas and certainly never is around a beach very often and we haven’t seen rain or humidity in I don’t know how long. So she doesn’t have to worry about that part. She either wants it really full of the kind of curls you use the tapered curling iron (you know-the kind you have to use a glove with to keep from burning your hand/fingers) or else flat ironed till it’s sooooo flat it’s unreal. She has a TON of hair, though and does have it thinned out sometimes several times a year so she has a lot of natural curl in body in her hair.

Well, that’s all I can help you with for today!! Not what you were looking for-but hey, maybe you DO want to try the sock-bun thing!! It’s really very simple to do and freakadoodle awesome looking with such little effort!!

You are hilarious! I may have to give the Olive Oil a try. I mean, I already use it on my salads, roasted vegies and to polish my furniture. Why not in my hair?!

Hey Rebekah. I would love to have your problem. I am told by my oncologist that I can expect my hair to start falling out this week after my first chemotherapy two weeks ago. Cancer scarves bought, wig bought- I am just waiting for the day I will trade places with my husband and he will be the one to buzz cut my hair with the clippers. Frizzy or flat, curly or collicky, brown or bald we are all beautiful in His eyes.

I have low maintenance hair myself and in the last year have lowered my maintenance even more. I stopped using shampoo on my hair! Oh yes! I was a little hesitant at first, but I love it. You can read about it here.

You can also try No-Poo Shampoo by Deva Curl. It’s technically a shampoo, but doesn’t lather, so it won’t dry out your hair. The stuff is amazing. I’m also jumping on the serum bandwagon – look for one with pequi oil (could probably find some at Ulta…I know Sephora carries pequi oil treatments).

Hey Rebekah, I just stumbled upon your blog & I love it! We actually met a million years ago in fact. It’s been a long time, but I am so glad to see you guys so happy & well! I knew Kayle back in Iowa – back in the ole Philmore days, youth group etc…

ANYways, I happen to be in cosmetology school these days & have a few ideas for your hair dilema. First of all – if you tend towards frizz, your hair needs MOISTURE! One thing about anti frizz serums that was a SERIOUS aha for me – most of them are designed to pull moisture out of the hair (specifically in humid type weather). This is totally fine & in Oklahoma may be necessary for you (it’s kind of humid there, right?!) HOWEVER, if your hair is not getting enough moisture put into it – it will only continue to look more frizzy.

I wasn’t a believer in professional shampoos & conditioners until I came to school. I’m telling you – they make a HUGE difference!! So, go to back to your ULTA or local salon & buy some moisture shampoo & conditioner!!

Also, get your hair cut more often! Seriously, when we don’t get at least a trim, the frayed ends just keep splitting further & further up the hair shaft & will also add to the lovely frizz look (I speak from personal experience on ALL of this! Seriously!!). One more thing I would suggest – layers! Even long layers will lighten up the weight of your hair & give you more movement. 🙂

I did get it cut finally! And-you will be happy to know that I have upgraded to professional shampoo & conditioner from Aveda. I cannot believe what a difference it has made on my hair. I thought it was just overpriced crap for people that like labels, but I am singing its praises today.
I’ll tell Kayle you said hello!
